The new 2022 Kona Electric
The 2022 Hyundai Kona SUV has been given an extra package with an all-electric specification added to the model range.
It retains all the cool looks and fantastic features that make the Kona a market favourite. It adds an electric motor without compromising efficiency and adding new dynamic performance.
The 2022 Kona Electric benefits from a styling update. The wheels get a new design in this facelift package, so do the rear and front bumpers, and the infotainment system now comes standard with a 10.3-inch digital gauge display.
The Kona EV’s electric motor produces 201 horsepower and a 64 kilowatt hour (kWh) battery, which powers the front wheels as it comes only in front-wheel drive. The heavy battery pack mounted to the floor gives it a low centre of gravity and makes it a delight to drive at high speeds on the highway and through twists and turns.
The battery will give you a range of 415 km at full charge, and it can go from zero to 100 km/h in a nifty 7.6 seconds. Using a 100 kW (level three) fast-charging station, you can recharge the battery to 80% in less than an hour.
The front bumper gets a new slick, closed design that helps the car’s aerodynamics, and, for ease of charging, it comes with a charging panel. The twin headlights were also redesigned and are fitted with daytime running LEDs.
The new wheel design gives the Kona EV a sporty look with the 17-inch alloys. It has a fully electric sunroof, and the Preferred trim comes with a two-tone paint option. You can therefore pick your colour and match it to the black sunroof.
The Kona EV interior maximizes style and comfort, echoing the stunning exterior. It’s filled with quality materials; for instance, the steering wheel is wrapped with leather, and it’s heated, combining luxury and warmth.
The front and rear seats are heated, and the driver’s seat offers additional comfort with a two-way power lumbar support. The front seats are also ventilated for the warmer summer days. The 10.3-inch infotainment system comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for easy connectivity with your phone. The Kona EV does have wireless charging pads for the front seats. You will also get a three-year subscription to Hyundai’s Bluelink connected vehicle system.
Technology and Safety Features
The Kona EV boasts a lot of technological features. It has a battery-temperature-management system to help with the colder Canadian winters. It makes sure that the car’s performance doesn’t decrease in the cold.
It preheats the battery while the car is on the charger and reduces the risk of range loss due to the colder weather.
Some of the safety features you can expect on the Kona EV are:
- Forward-collision avoidance assists with pedestrian and cyclist detection.
- Adaptive cruise control with stop and go.
- Rear-occupant alert reminds you to check the rear seats when the car is switched off.
